In a Vase on Monday...oh the riches!

The "problem" with participating in this Monday vase ritual is that you get used to having fresh cut stems from the garden around the house. Then when you get busy (or go out of town) and they all pass their prime (and must be tossed) things suddenly feel empty and dreary. What's a blogger to do but head out to the garden to see what's available...

And oh my! Tis the season of abundance, there is so much going on in the garden right now it's difficult to even know where to start.

After looking around a bit I decided to start with Lupinus albifrons. Their spires are so tall, and stems so thin, that any little bit of rain flops them over...and the day that I did the cutting it was going to rain hard. I have three plants so I could spread out the cutting among them.

Looking at the Euphorbia polychroma and the Hakonechloa next I decided to go with a chartreuse and blue/purple combination.

And cut a few of the Ajuga reptans 'Black Scallop' flower clusters.

Here's the first arragement...

I can't remember where I picked up the vase, I've had it for years.

My mom recently bought the same vase with this fabulous label still on it...(I'm kind of jealous)...

The second vase was a gift from my parents, purchased at the same antiques shop where she bought her vase.

I love how the dark lines in the Hakonechloa echo the vase color.

And although I grow the Lupinus albifrons for it's foliage I am enjoying the flowers.

I matched the two vases up with a chartreuse Bauer pot with gravel and Tillandsia...

And they went on the dining table.

A note about the color. To the eye the Lupine blooms are purple, deep violet purple. Since the camera makes them look blue I thought maybe if I found something that shade of blue it would trick the camera into showing the flowers their actual color. Nope. That was a fail. These things are not the same color in "real life"...

So that's what I came up with this week, click on over to Rambling in the Garden for links to all the bloggers creating arrangements from their garden cuttings.
