It's Bloomday!!! Someone reminded me the other day that not everyone knows what this Bloomday thing is all about. Here's the lowdown: on the 15th of each month we garden bloggers post photos of what's blooming in our garden. It all started with Carol at May Dreams Gardens, she began the Bloomday meme in February of 2007. My first Bloomday post was in April of 2009, which reminds me I'm coming up on 7 years of blogging on March 13th (gulp).
The star bloomer in my garden right now is this, Edgeworthia chrysantha 'Nanjing Gold'. As you can see it's popular with more than just people (lower right-hand middle)...
(bumble bee butt...)
And that thing, whatever it is.
I finally broke down and bought this plant for it's huge leaves, but this time of year it's all about the flowers.
However the orange flowering version, Edgeworthia chrysantha ‘Akebono’, I bought solely for the flowers. It's always a couple of weeks behind 'Nanjing Gold'.
Grevillea victoriae 'Murray Queen'
The Euphorbia rigida are really starting to shine.
All of my plants are volunteers. They plant themselves well.
Euphorbia 'Ascot Rainbow'
Still a week or two away from maximum flower but I'm enjoying them right now.
Arctostaphylos densiflora ‘Sentinel’
Arctostaphylos x 'Austin Griffiths'
Arctostaphylos densiflora 'Harmony'
I couldn't bear the idea of not having the sweet scent of Hyacinth nearby, so I bought a container of planted bulbs at our "everything store"...
Indeed the fragrance is divine, and I love the green outlined buds before they open.
Jasminum nudiflorum
Here's a surprise! The Leucadendron 'Jester'I recently bought at Cistus is blooming.
Okay yes, I admit – not a bloom. But I had to share the fabulous berries on the Aucuba japonica ‘Longifolia’...
This is such an amazing plant, it deserves more love than it gets.
Time to wrap up this post, let's do it with some Hellebores. Helleborus argutifolius
Helleborus x ballardiae Pink Frost
Helleborus x hybridus 'Jade Tiger'
It's my fav, as you could probably tell.
And with a nod to Cathy's "In a Vase on Monday" meme, which I'm not participating in this week I thought I would share a final Hellebore, one that I always cut and bring inside.
It's a long lost one, I've no idea what the name is – but it certainly doesn't go unappreciated...
