I'm kind of embarrassed to admit I hadn't been back to Pomarius Nursery since they hosted the opening night of the Portland Garden Bloggers Fling in July of 2014. I'd meant to, I'd thought about it, but something kept getting in the way. Finally after running into Peter and Wes at a party a couple weeks ago I managed to get myself over there...
And somehow in the time that had elapsed since my last visit the nursery has become even more beautiful, how is that even possible?
These photos were all taken out on the public sidewalk, before you've even entered the nursery proper.
Just this section alone is better than many gardens...
And then you enter the nursery...
Wes came over to say hello and brought this little cutie with him. I should remember his name but honestly with a face like that do words even matter?
Look! Pomarius now carries Modernica planters!
And their Rodgersia still have color...
Back at home and looking at my photos I got all bummed that I didn't buy this. I started imagining that it was something super hard to find and I'd passed it by. I emailed a photo to my friend Evan who confirmed it was most likely a Sambucus racemosa 'Sutherland Gold'. Not terribly rare, but quite gorgeous.
A blue sky was threatening, and it shows up in some of my photos. I wish it would have been here, in this shot. Maybe then you could have better seen those fabulous rusted table bases.
They were terribly cool.
A blooming Dasylirion...
A slightly better shot of the plant itself.
Maybe another Dasylirion? I forgot to go look closer once I took the photo.
The color of a stressed Agave has its own beauty. (or am I wrong? Is that a Yucca???)
Orostachys iwarenge, a plant you rarely see for sale in these parts...
Try as I might I was unable to really capture the beauty of this one.
Everywhere I glanced there was a delightful vignette that captured my attention.
And drew me in closer.
See what I mean?
Does Flora Grubb have some competition, right here in Portland?
Agave shawii, maybe? I didn't look for a tag.
And definitely our friend Agave 'Cream Spike'...
A purposeful placement? Or someone filling a watering can and then called away?
I'm so glad I stopped by, and it won't be so long before I do so again...
