Back to Southern California, back to December 24th 2014...
We'd discovered a great used bookstore in North Hollywood (The Iliad, excellent gardening section) and as usual Andrew needed about an hour longer than me to see it all, so I went for a walk. At first glance this path seems dangerous but they've done a great job of keeping the plants back from the walkway.
White spikes, green new growth...lush.
The fence looks like something out of a Hollywood western.
Another garden just up the street with an entirely different vibe.
Wild!
Certified Wildlife Habitat and a LittleFreeLibrary, very Portland indeed.
Fire! (sticks)
I want these pavers for my own driveway.
This installation felt like it was the work of a prior resident. It was once loved, but has fallen into a bit of disrepair.
That's some chunky bark mulch!
Which is trying to infiltrate the gravel.
This was quite the strange house, equal bits impressive and bizarre. The kind of place that kids dare each other to trick-or-treat on Halloween.
Nice tree though (a Schefflera of some sort I believe).
Green lawn + Los Angles = why?
That's the third white picket fence I saw, and there's another one yet to see. What gives with that?
Flawless.
Crazy gardener alert! One who just can't help but propagate.
Or something.
And right about here is where I got the call that Andrew was done and where the heck was I anyway...?
