A little sunset magic, or what I bought at the beach

I'm starting this post with the money shot—as originally posted to my Instagram feed—because I love it so much!

I'd actually bent to take this photo (below), but then realized the better shot would be taken with the setting sun, and ocean, in the background.

Both were taken on the balcony of our hotel at Heceta Beach, Oregon (where we stayed for a few days at the end of March), and show my plant haul from Yaquina Nursery & Greenhouse. If you click on that link and read the story you'll understand why I can't tell you the specific name of some the plants I bought, nothing there is labeled, it's all very low tech. I know I bought two Aristaloe aristata, two dyckia, a couple pots of haworthia and a trio of cactus. But that's the best I can do. Here's the shot I took at the nursery while I was checking out.

If you ever have the opportunity to visit the nursery—9724 Yachats River Rd, Yachats, OR 9749—I highly recommend it. A follow-up post goes up tomorrow morning, with a lot of photos, because it was all quite picturesque.

In the mean time here's a look at what I did with one of the cactus. These pick-axe plantings will be for sale (along with copies of Fearless Gardening and a few other new upcycle and plant creations) at Pomarius Nursery on May 8th, the day before Mother's Day.

It's called the May Marché and the $5 all admission cost goes to benefit Brown Girl Rise (reservations required). There are other a dozen other fabulous vendors lined up selling their wares. Visit Pomarius for more info... here. Hope to see you there!
