There have been exactly three times that a clematis has caused me to stop and point, begging for ID from anyone walking by...
This first time was at Cistus Nursery, when I saw Clematis tibetana var. vernayi growing over a fence. I'd never seen anything like it and I had to have it.
The second time happened when visiting the Eckerdt Garden as part of the Salem Study Weekend. I saw Clematis florida var. sieboldiana and was awe-struck.
This was the third...
In Boulder, Colorado, at the garden of Tatiana Maxwell, during the 2019 Garden Bloggers Fling.
Once we were back on the bus I took to Facebook and posted photos, surely someone could identify it.
And they did, Clematis 'Multi Blue'...
Everyone agreed, but none of the photos I see online have quite the same magic as this plant.
Maybe it was just an exceptional specimen; the deep color...
The super fluffy centers...
Maybe I just need to track it down and grow it myself?
Yep, that's probably what I need to do.
P.S. we'll see the rest of this garden tomorrow...
