August's Bloomday, for 2018

The West is on fire and our skies are thick with smoke haze. I got out and took these photos early in the morning, the sun wasn't too high and the haze not too thick. My timing was just right, it got much worse as the day went on. Of course using the smoky haze for photos is make lemonade. I'd rather have blue sky and no fires, no death, no loss of homes, no animals dying...and it not hurting to go outside! (our air quality is in the unhealthy category)

Once again this month my photo order is not based on what might be visually appealing, or where the blooms are located in the garden, but rather the fact I name my photos and thus they upload in alpha order. I hope you won'd find any of these combo's visually alarming.

Abutilon Nuabyell ('Nuabtang' is also blooming, but I neglected to take a photo)...

Alstroemeria 'Indian Summer', this plant has been pushing out one bloom after another, I am in love.

Anigozanthos 'Bush Ranger'— dumb name, great flower.

Bougainvillea, I know...the bracts not the flowers, but they're the colorful part!

Canna, with seed pods. Love the seed pods.

Canna, also with seed pods, if you look close.

Cedrus atlantica 'Glauca', cones count as flowers, right?

Cleome 'Violet Queen'

'Green Trick' Dianthus barbatus

Echeveria 'Blue Atoll'

Gaura lindheimeri, I had two of these plants in the front garden but pulled them both about this time last summer (they annoyed me). I'm not sure if this is a seedling or something come back from a bit of root.

The grafted cactus are such reliable bloomers it's crazy. Of course catching them at this stage is easy, anything beyond is difficult as it's a fleeting moment.

Grevillea rivularis, blooming for months, as happy Grevillea seem to do.

Grevillea x gaudichaudii, LOVE this plant!

Hibiscus syriacus 'Red Heart'

A NOID Bromeliad

Indigofera amblyantha

Metapanax delavayi

Moluccella laevis

They're starting to make seed, there's no reason why I can't save the seeds and plant them next spring, right?

Look! A pair of Nymphaea blooms this month. I'd begun to think my yellow flowering waterlilies weren't ever going to bloom.

Nymphaea Perry’s Almost Black

I think this is Nymphaea 'Joey Tomocik' although it could be Nymphaea 'Marliacea Chromatella', I've got both and lost track of which is which.

Paris polyphylla - Heronswood form

Passiflora 'Snow Queen' (no flowers currently on Passiflora 'Amethyst Jewel')

Rubus — Baby Cakes™ Blackberry, re-blooming after a spring round. Yay for that.

The Salvia apiana sent up two VERY tall bloom spikes, which the pollinators and hummingbirds (when the flowers are open) are loving. The top...

The spikes...

The plant...

The flowers of Santolina chamaecyparissus 'Lemon Queen' are all done, but I can't bring myself to cut them off.

Schefflera brevipedunculata

Schefflera delavayi

Verbascum (volunteer seedling, not sure of ID)

Plantago major 'Rubrifolia'— yes like the weed, only not — check out that dark foliage! It keeps sending up blooms which I keep pinching off. I am tempted to let just one stay, then again, it's a weed! Anyway, here ends my Bloomday line-up. Remember to visit May Dreams Gardens for links to all the bloggers sharing their blooms today.
