Last August I purchased this metal planter from Indio Metal Arts at the Cracked Pots show at McMenamins Edgefield...
But it just sat around, unplanted, after I took that photo, above. Almost 10 months later and I finally figured out what to plant in it. Meet Obregonia denegrii...
During my visit to East Austin Succulents (post coming soon, of course), I bought a gallon sized pot containing a pair of Obregonia denegrii, one plant significantly larger than the other. I was about to plop them in a plain black container and then I remembered the metal, thank god!
Doing a little post-purchase research I read Obregonia denegrii described both as an "artichoke cactus" and an "an inverted pine cone with a woolly center"— either way I love it, and pray it loves me, and the metal planter.
Now let's see how long it takes me to plant up this giant chartreuse ModDish planter I won during the Garden Bloggers Fling raffle (thanks Steel Life!) ...
Hopefully I have it done in less than 10 months...
