Although it's hard to tell, the subject of the photo below — and thus my Wednesday Vignette — is a stump. It's the stump of a once giant Photinia that grew between our driveway and the neighboring house..
I find myself watching this stump through out the year, there's so much life on it. Those little white-tipped things send a fine powder into the air when flicked.
The different moss and fungus are numerous.
But it's the turkey-tail mushroom that really captures my imagination. I had taken a dry (summertime) photo of it too, but now I can't seem to track that down.
The stump is part of the property that's for sale next to us (the subject of a past Wednesday Vignette), which has an offer pending. We don't know anything about the possible buyers, or their intentions. If stump destruction looks immanent I might just have to take matters into my own hands and rescue it.
