In a Vase on Monday (finally) the Zinnias...

My Zinnia seeds were planted late this year, due to our cool wet spring. It's taken them until now to start to open, and be worthy of cutting.

In addition to Zinnia elegans 'Envy' I also planted 'Queen Lime Blush'

And 'Queen Red Lime'...which it a little pink for my tastes, but then again this is just the first to open. Maybe they'll mellow with time.

A few 'Envy' stems were cut for a vase...

The variations are so interesting. There's the multiple rows of petals (above). Then you've got the two or three rows...

And the single rows.

They also get greener the longer they stay inside.

Once again, to cut down on the background noise, I took these photos in my "studio" (aka the bathroom — with it's neutral wall color). The vase captured my reflection, as well as that of my furry little helper, on my left. "What ya doin mom?"....

The Zinnia are living on the dining table, along with a stem of Amsonia hubrichtii, cut because it committed the ultimate sin — attempting to hide an Agave ovatifolia.

I do love it's feathery goodness.

You may have noticed there haven't been any "mantle shots" recently. That's because the other member of the household has commandeered the mantle, equal rights you know?

He's displaying recently completed works and works in progress..

I couldn't help myself and started to move things around and make vignettes. I was told to stop. This is his thing, not mine. Okay, that's fair.
