Vertical gardening...my way

If you're a regular reader you know I love me some old metal bits that can be re-purposed as a planter. I found this metal vent at Portland's Rebuilding Center.

Super drainage! Actually too much drainage. I added a piece of plastic to cover the wire grid, but still let a little water drain. I also neglected to take a photo of it.

Since I've gone a little Bromeliad mad I tucked in this amazing specimen...

And this one too...

Then I had to add a Trachelospermum asiaticum 'Ogon Nishiki',,,

Because there are two in the dish planters below and I absolutely love them.

The finished vent, all planted up, with a little Tillandsia Usneoides for good measure...

I really should have included a wide-shot, of the whole area under the shade pavilion...but it's my last garden mess, waiting to be cleaned up and dealt with. Thus you only get a close up. There will be more photos later, trust me.

Another vertical surface I've reworked is the "bulletin board" planter. Last year it was planted up with Aeoniums.

I wasn't quite sure what I was going to do this year, then I saw those lust-worthy Begonia's and knew they'd be perfect tucked into the planters.

Begonia 'Curly Fireflush' was joined by good old Dichondra argentea, which will add about a half inch, to an inch, of length a week, as long as I keep it well watered.

I think they make a fetching combination.

That's my vertical gardening update...have you been doing any VG?
