Andrew and I spent our 10th wedding anniversary in San Diego. While we visited lots of gardens and nurseries, one of my most vivid memories is of the flamingos at the San Diego Zoo.

It was the only time I've seen these fabulous creatures in person.

But I've had a fondness for them (and all the kitchy designs inspired by them) my entire life.

Funny thing, little pink flamingos started appearing around our house last week, on our 12th anniversary.

The seemed particularly attracted to the dried Protea...

And were quite curious about these seed pods.

One hung out in the bottle-tree Christmas forest.

And one seemed distracted by its own reflection in the metal bathroom shelf.

This one seemed to long for the outdoors. Silly thing, it was cold out there!

While it took me awhile to locate all 6 flamingos, my anniversary flowers were easier to spot.

What with their bright tropical heart-shaped blooms...

And clear winter-white flowers.
